Crichton livrează din nou un roman tensionat, antrenant, cu un ritm bine calibrat și o doză serioasă de știință integrată în ficțiune. Se observă o maturizare față de Jurassic Park, cu o explorare mai adâncă a ideii de „natură versus tehnologie” și a obsesiei umane pentru control.

Mi-am dat seama, citind cartea, că toată viața m-am supraestimat: în niciun scenariu eu n-aș fi supraviețuit pe Isla Sorna. Poate aș fi fost personajul care cade de pe platformă în primele 10 pagini.

Citind The Lost World m-am întrebat sincer: chiar trebuie să ne tot întoarcem pe insulă? Adică, din toate locurile posibile, fix acolo? Dar apoi mi-am dat seama că și eu m-aș întoarce, dacă aș ști că pot atinge un stegozaur. Poate că suntem toți niște copii mari care încă visează la dinozauri.
